The province of San Juan is in the process of looking for both conventional and non-conventional hydrocarbons via a partnership with the Volponi Seismological Institute at the University of San Juan (UNSJ). Together we have revised the surveying operations underway in the Tamerías area, as well as analyzed expectations regarding the southern end of this area nearing the Mendoza border. Thanks to the collaboration with the Volponi Seismological Institute, EPSE is mapping out the gravimetric lines related to the hydrocarbon block found in Caucete—and things look promising.
Regarding non-conventional hydrocarbons, operations will continue under the company with mining rights in the Rincón Blanco area, particularly those developed together with the Mining Research Institute of the Engineering College at the University of San Juan; in such a way, the technical viability of mobilizing mining reserves remains within sight, and the university will also be able to participate in a possible decision regarding any possible extractions; it would be the first unconventional deposit to be mobilized in Argentina. Furthermore, in-depth research has been performed on the feasibility of exploration for coal-bed methane in the Marayes-Carrizal basin as a corollary study to the larger research project arranged by the San Juan government.
